Overview & Applications
IAR is a specialized data acquisition software designed to periodically extract metrological readings, billing registers, and interval load profile curves from Itron SL7000 series meters, generating structured historical log files.
Built in Python with compiled standalone Windows executables, it communicates with the meter via serial RS-485 following the standardized IEC 62056-21 protocol (formerly IEC 1107).
By integrating with serial-to-Ethernet converters supporting TCP sockets (e.g., Moxa, Atop, or HF2211), IAR queries meters both locally and across remote IP networks. Downloaded data is stored in daily text files containing 24 hourly readings and cumulative imported/exported energy registers (OBIS codes 1.1.1.8.0 and 1.1.2.8.0), ready for automated ingestion into billing and energy management systems.
